What I’ve Been Reading

Grocery Shopping in the US—I was really interested to read this because it confirmed that I’m not a TOTAL freak; I usually go to at least two stores for my shopping, sometimes three or four if there are great sales.
Coping Skills to Curb Emotional Eating—I think I’m going to print this list out and hang it somewhere prominently.
Butter vs. Margarine: Is Either One Healthier?—I switched to using butter exclusively after reading Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma, but I thought this was an interesting analysis.
The Wastefulness of Decluttering—and this one resonated with me because of the decluttering we’re doing in preparation for a garage sale.

New-to-me blog: The Zero Waste Home.

What I’ve Been Up To

Environment: Nothing in particular this week, but they picked up our recycling this week! (They didn’t the last couple of weeks.)
Food: OMG. We went to the local u-pick-em berry farm yesterday morning and I now have about 12 pounds of strawberries, four pounds of raspberries and a pound of basil in my kitchen. I foresee a lot of jam and pesto in my future!
Happiness: I’ve been doing a lot of journaling this week, and it’s felt really good to get to the root of things.
Health: I’ve eaten vegan for two meals a day every day this week. It wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be! (A little almond milk goes a long way to easing the transition.)
Mindfulness: I just finished Geneen Roth’s Women, Food, and God: An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything and it is a stunning book. I felt like most of it was written directly to me. Yesterday I photocopied her guidelines for eating and hung them on my fridge.
Style: Nothing much this week, though I did have to come up with TWO outfits for two different photo shoots this week.
Thrift: Spent most of our weekly food money on the aforementioned berries and stuff, so I’m going to have to be pretty creative about our menu this coming week.
